On the morning of June 12, the 4th Belt and Road Intellectual Property Protection Seminar of 2025 was held. Yu Chen, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration; Ma Yi, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade; and Xu Yonglin, Vice President of the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, attended the seminar.
In his opening remarks, Yu Chen stated that in recent years, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration has focused on implementing the strategic plan to build Shanghai into a strong city in intellectual property. It has continuously deepened cooperation and exchanges in the field of intellectual property with countries and regions along the Belt and Road, strengthened the protection of intellectual property rights in foreign-related matters, improved the overseas intellectual property rights protection and assistance mechanism, and enhanced the mechanisms for risk warning, prevention and control, as well as guidance for dispute response—providing strong support for enterprises to "go global." Moving forward, the administration will focus on the risks and challenges in the intellectual property field, further strengthen guidance on responding to overseas IP disputes, and help enterprises achieve high-quality development.
At the seminar, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics jointly unveiled the "Training Base for Overseas Intellectual Property Protection Talent." Going forward, the three parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in building this talent base, providing strong intellectual property talent support for the Belt and Road Initiative.
During the keynote speech session, experts and scholars from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, the Shanghai International Arbitration Center, the Academic Committee of the Shanghai Institute for Science of Science, and law firms delivered insightful speeches on topics such as foreign-related intellectual property law, the role of arbitration in supporting the development of an international science and innovation center, the transformation of intellectual property into technological achievements, and the registration of data products as intellectual property. They collectively explored practical paths and emerging trends in foreign-related IP protection.
In the roundtable session, participating experts and enterprise representatives engaged in discussions around the theme “Intellectual Property Protection Supporting High-Quality Belt and Road Development.” They offered constructive opinions and suggestions on international cooperation, overseas deployment, foreign-related IP protection, and IP transactions and commercialization, jointly exploring international collaboration mechanisms for IP protection.
This seminar is one of the series of events under the 11th China (Shanghai) International Technology Import and Export Fair. It is guided by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, and jointly organized by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Protection Center, the Shanghai Belt and Road Comprehensive Service Center, the Shanghai Joint Institute for Intellectual Property Studies, and the Law School of the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
