Profile
Mr. Song Mingdi is a patent agent who graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Beijing Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He has worked and studied in various departments including Beijing Jeep Corporation, the State Intellectual Property Office, the Patent Reexamination Board, and the Jiangsu Higher People's Court. He not only has a strong technical background but also extensive experience in patent early warning, infringement analysis, substantive examination, re-examination and invalidation, quality management, and business management. During his tenure at the Patent Reexamination Board, he presided over many cases with significant interests and social impact. Notably, the "World's Number One Knife" patent invalidation request case and the Baosteel Corporation vs. Newcore Company patent invalidation declaration request case were selected as "Top Ten Typical Cases" by the Patent Reexamination Committee in 2009 and 2010, respectively. In 2008, he was sent to the Jiangsu Higher People's Court for exchange and learning, where he gained precise understanding of the litigation procedures and key points of substantive trial in intellectual property infringement cases. By the end of 2013, he was elected as the deputy director of the Hubei Province Patent Infringement Determination Committee, and has multiple times provided expert opinions on infringement determination for the Intellectual Property Office of Hubei Province. Over the past decade, Mr. Song Mingdi has not only undertaken internal training within his organization but has also led teams to conduct research and training in various enterprises and institutions. He was appointed by the Wuhan Education Base of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to teach a graduate course titled "Basic Patent Law and Patent Application Practice." He has twice been invited by the Wuhan Intellectual Property Research Association to instruct a pre-examination training course for patent agents on "Substantive Conditions for Granting Patent Rights and the Substantive Examination Procedure of Invention Patents," and in 2016, he was hired as a faculty member for the Capital Patent Agent Industry Talent Pool. In addition, Mr. Song has made significant academic contributions. He has published numerous business papers in publications such as the "Intellectual Property Newspaper," "Case Interpretations by the Patent Reexamination Board - Creativity," and "Case Interpretations by the Patent Reexamination Board - Other Substantive Conditions for Patent Granting." He also served as the chief editor for the book "Detailed Analysis of Patent Administrative Litigation Cases in the Mechanical Field," where he oversaw the overall academic direction of the book. In 2015, Mr. Song joined Beijing Kangxin, where he primarily handles patent searching, patent analysis, and patent strategic layout planning. He has undertaken key patent early warning and layout planning projects for leading enterprises, providing constructive suggestions for risk avoidance and patent strategy layout.

  • 2012 Joined the Quality Control Division of the Examination Business Management Department at the State Intellectual Property Office, serving as Deputy Director.
  • 2013 Joined the Patent Examination Cooperation Hubei Center of the Patent Office at the State Intellectual Property Office, serving as a member of the Discipline Inspection Committee, Director of the Examination Business Department, and Director of the Material Engineering Department.
