Nokia announced on August 14 that it had signed a patent licensing agreement with the American IoT company Verifone. As part of the agreement, Verifone will pay Nokia multi-year patent licensing fees. This agreement marks a resolution of their intellectual property disputes and concludes their global legal battles. Earlier in March, Nokia had filed lawsuits in a German court and the Unified Patent Court (UPC), accusing Verifone of infringing several of Nokia’s essential patents related to cellular and Wi-Fi standards by using Nokia's connectivity technology in its point-of-sale devices without authorization. With this new settlement, all related lawsuits will be withdrawn.
