Indonesia Plans IDR 10 Trillion Intellectual Property Financing Scheme for Creative Industries
date: 2026-01-28

The Indonesian government has agreed to establish an IP-based financing platform for creative industry practitioners in 2026, with a scale of IDR 10 trillion (approximately USD 593 million). This move will position Indonesia as the 15th country globally to adopt such a scheme.

According to a statement, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas announced the policy during a recent meeting in Jakarta with national media leaders, attended by Benny Butarbutar, President of the Antara News Agency, and other senior media figures.

Agtas stated that the initiative reflects the commitment of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) to not only provide legal certainty and protection for creators but also to enable them to commercialize their works, thereby making a more meaningful contribution to the national economy.

Addressing 31 editors-in-chief, senior journalists, and representatives from the Press Council, Agtas also outlined President Prabowo Subianto's vision and policy directions regarding judicial fairness and digital transformation. He noted that the National Agency for Legal Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, has established approximately 76,000 legal aid posts across 32 provinces.

The Minister emphasized that this policy aligns with the President's repeated calls to ensure equitable access to justice for all segments of society. He added that the Ministry of Law has prioritized the digitalization of public services to enhance accessibility and legal certainty.

Agtas further underscored: "Digitalization is imperative, as it will make our services more accessible and provide greater certainty to the people."

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Law Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej offered insights into public concerns regarding the newly enacted Criminal Code, stating that such debates are a natural outcome in a country as diverse as Indonesia. He expressed hope that this media dialogue would help clarify government policies and reassure the public of the President's commitment to people-centered programs. (Compiled fromwww.asiaiplaw.com)
