Ahead of the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM 2025) celebrations, Malaysia’s Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) announced a series of initiatives to support local businesses and consumers. The headline measure is a substantial reduction in trademark registration fees by the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO), an agency under KPDN.
KPDN Minister Armizan Mohd Ali said when unveiling these measures that they reflect the Malaysian government’s commitment to promoting national prosperity and unity.
Main measures include:
Trademark fee reduction scheme:
Theme: “Protect Local Brands, Expand to Global Markets,” aimed at encouraging micro, small, and medium enterprises to protect their IP.
Details: RM300 (US$71) reduction per application—down from RM950 (US$225) to RM650 (US$154).
Implementation period: Four-month promotional window from September 1 to December 31, 2025.
Eligibility: Individuals, business entities, associations, and organizations may apply.
Objective: Given that 96.1% of Malaysia’s business entities are micro and SMEs, the move seeks to enhance the competitiveness of local brands.
Shopee consumer program: KPDN is partnering with Shopee to pass benefits directly to consumers.
Program name: “Shopee Payung RM100.”
Offer: Consumers pay just RM1 (≈US$0.40) to purchase a general voucher worth RM100 (≈US$24), usable across the Shopee platform (including ShopeeFood and Shopee Live).
Period: August 31 to September 16, 2025.
Scale: Total budget RM10 million (US$2.37 million), expected to benefit 100,000 users. Shopee will also offer free delivery during the campaign.
As another KPDN-affiliated agency, the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has launched the Ezbiz On-The-Go 2.0 mobile service bus. The upgraded vehicle is designed to deliver faster, more convenient SSM services to the public, with enhancements including a larger-capacity bus, modernized service counters, and self-service touchscreen terminals.
Ali stated: “These initiatives reflect our commitment to supporting the people of Malaysia and recognize the unity of Malaysians of all ethnicities in building a more peaceful and prosperous nation together.”
