Kangxin holds Trademark and Patent Overseas Intellectual Property Seminar in Shenzhen

Kangxin Partners held a two-day seminar, from September 13 to 14, in Shenzhen, titled “Trademark and Patent Overseas Intellectual Property Seminar”. Over one hundred domestic and foreign guests attended the event, where IP practitioners from China, the US, Europe, Japan and Korea lectured on various IP topics.

 

Trademark Overseas Intellectual Property Seminar

 

On the first day of the seminar, Kangxin Partners’ Partner Ms Gloria Wu delivered a lecture focusing on the process of Gucci vs Guess trademark dispute and invalidation in China, emphasizing the tools used in this type of cases, such as industry surveys. Ms Michelle Ciotola, a representative of Cantor Colburn LLP, a US law firm, spoke about trademark topics, from intricacies of trademark application in the US to protection of trademark rights, demonstrating her points through several case studies. Mr. Davide Leiballi and Ms Mariella Massaro from Jacobacci & Partners S.p.A, served as representatives from the European Union, describing trademark practice in the EU countries from application to enforcement. Our expert from Japan, Ms Miki Tomii from SK IP Law Office, explained the Japanese IP examination system, using both classic and newest cases she has encountered. Our Korean colleague from Kim & Chang, Ms. Park Sun Young, shared her expertise on malicious cybersquatting and trademark protection strategies in Korea, citing several landmark cases which determined that a well-known trademark can be protected in Korea regardless of use.

The second day of the seminar the focus was shifted to global patent practices. Mr Daniel Drexler, Cantor Colburn LLP, Ms Mariella Massaro and Mr Robert Alderson, Jacobacci & Partners S.p.A., Mr Masato Sasaki, SK IP Law Office, Ms Flora Zhang, Kim & Chang, and Joe Jiang, Kangxin Partners, shared numerous technical cases from their professional experience, speaking on invalidation and infringement cases, as well as their insights into strategies for patent applications in the Chinese market.
